Our Mission in Motion — The Impact of the 4th Annual Shine Her Light Golf Tournament

The 4th Annual Katie Harrington Memorial Golf Tournament was more than a day on the course — it was a powerful reminder of what community can accomplish when we come together for mothers and families. Each year, this event grows not just in attendance, but in impact, and this year’s tournament showed just how much Katie’s legacy continues to move people to action.

A Community United for Maternal Health

From early‑morning registration to the final putt, golfers, volunteers, families, and supporters showed up with heart. Many teams returned for their second, third, or fourth year, demonstrating how deeply Katie’s story resonates and how committed our community is to improving maternal health outcomes.

Seeing Weston, Katie’s bright and energetic son, enjoying the day reminded everyone why this mission matters. His presence is a living reminder of the families we serve, the stories we honor, and the futures we fight to protect.

Why This Tournament Matters

Every dollar raised through this event directly fuels Shine Her Light’s mission to improve maternal health outcomes and support families. Our impact continues because of days like this:

  • Preeclampsia Foundation — advancing education, research, and advocacy to help families recognize warning signs early and push for safer maternal care nationwide. Their work is critical in addressing conditions like postpartum preeclampsia, a complication that affects 1 in 12 pregnancies and remains one of the leading causes of preventable maternal deaths.

  • MoMMAs Voices — training survivors to become certified Patient Family Partners who bring lived experience into hospitals, research studies, and policy conversations. Their voices help shape the future of maternal care and ensure that mothers are heard when something feels wrong.

  • Maternal‑health textbook project — a groundbreaking effort led by respected physicians across the country. This textbook compiles real case studies — including stories like Katie’s — to educate providers on postpartum hypertension, strengthen clinical decision‑making, and reinforce the importance of listening to women’s instincts.

  • Marguerite’s Place — providing stable housing, childcare, education, and career pathways for single mothers. Their work helps families build independence, confidence, and long‑term stability — outcomes Katie would have celebrated with her whole heart.

A Day Filled With Joy and Purpose

Golfers enjoyed friendly competition, lighthearted on‑course games, and the excitement of raffles and prizes — all contributing to the energy that makes this event so special. But beyond the fun, there was a shared understanding that every swing and every raffle ticket was part of something bigger.

The love for Katie, the commitment to maternal health, and the desire to make a difference were felt in every conversation, every laugh, and every moment of connection.

A Quiet Moment of Reflection

When the last cart returned and the course grew quiet, I paused to take in the day. The empty tables, the soft hum of the clubhouse, and the stillness after so much joy offered a moment to reflect on how far Shine Her Light has come — and how much hope this community continues to create.

Thank You
